Located on an 18th century estate in Ireland’s County Carlow is Royal Oak Distillery, home to The Busker. Under one roof, the distillery team make three styles – pot still, malt, and grain whiskey. Royal Oak is celebrated as one of Ireland’s most advanced whiskey distilleries.
The distillery proudly combines tradition with innovation. The team has expert knowledge of Irish whiskey production and history and applies this to cutting-edge technology to create their signature spirit. The spirit is matured in a number of unique and exciting casks such as bourbon, sherry, and Marsala wine.
Royal Oak is one of the Irish distilleries that is leading the charge in terms of sustainability and innovation. All the whiskey is made exclusively using locally sourced material. They also reclaim all of their waste from cereal distillation and fermentation and repurpose this to be used as animal feed, which so far has saved 20 million litres of liquid waste and 2,000 tonnes of solid waste – and counting!
The Busker boasts a Small Batch Collection (does what it says on the tin!) as well as their Single Collection, which showcases the distillery’s exceptional Single Grain, Single Malt, and Single Pot Still whiskeys. The Single Collection is a particularly special way to enjoy and experience authentically produced Irish whiskey at its very best.
This month, we’re lucky enough to be sampling The Busker Single Pot Still. Made using malted and unmalted barley and distilled in copper pot stills, this whiskey has enjoyed its maturation in bourbon and sherry casks. The result is a warming expression brimming with rich notes of fudge and sticky toffee pudding.
